[sdiy] Vactrols == Optocouplers?

Vactrol was a registered trademark of Vactec Inc.
and referred to its line of photoconductive cell
optoisolators.

These were usually LED-photocell or Neon-photocell
or incandescent-photocell.

Like "Moog" the name became generic for optocouplers
from other companies, that use a photoconductive cell
as the receiver.

All Vactrols ARE optocouplers, but not all
optocouplers
are Vactrols.

Makers of photoconductive cells included Clairex (just
dropped the product) EGG-Vactec (now part of
Perkin-Elmer), Hammamatsu, and Silonix.
