Even now that CD's are old it's still a portion of the technique called
"oversampling". But importantly the pre-filter Data Rate is 4X the intended
delivery rate so the filter does not impact intended resolution. The idea
was to allow small order anti-aliasing analog output filters.

Back when CD players were new, I think they called this "4X oversampling."
