While MIDI 1.0 was being specified there was dissent from NED and some 
others about the available bandwidth, and to some extent they've been 
proven right. Note and mono AT are fine, but once you start adding release 
velocity and poly AT you're limited to a single instrument down a single 
MIDI cable. Doubled bandwidth - which did appear on a couple of instruments 
- could have gone some way to helping with that.

But aside from that, too many manufacturers are cheapskates, and there's 
been too little interest from instrument buyers in the more advanced 
expression possibilities to make them worth including.

Which is a huge shame, I think. Poly AT is fantastically expressive, and 
once you've tried it it's hard to live without it.
