>How about "Xanadu" There is a scene with an 80's rock band playing a huge

Hi Peter, Pete, and Others,
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the GIANT ARP 2500 at the end of "Close
Encounters of the Third Kind." I remember watching this in the theaters and
being completely blown away by the sheer size of the thing. I was hoping
that it was going to be played more, but I still thought it was very cool.
In later years when relatives would ask "now, what is a 'synthesizer'
again?", all I had to do was say "remember that big, huge keyboard in 'Close
Encounters'?"
I also recall that the film features one of the ARP engineers ("Phil
someone?") actually playing the beast. I think this may just be the most
recognizable "Synth in film" ever.
Tim (wonder what THAT synth would fetch on eBay?) Servo

P.S. I once knew a friend of a friend named Peter Lapis Stone. Roughly, his
name meant 'Rock, Rock, Rock'. Just FYI ;)
