is that the rubber (actually, plastic) contacts may or
may not be the problem.

If it's the same keyboard mechanism as a D-5 then I agree.
(same era - probably same low cost lousy keyboard)
I've just repaired a D-5 which looks in perfect condition
but certain keys were not working. The problem on mine was
that the key contacts are on an acetate strip which comes
out to the edge of the keyboard chassis. This connects to
another acetate flex cable using just the usual carbon,
some glue and a plastic strip to keep it held down.
I found which part of the contact had failed and then peeled
the joint back carefully - it's very easy to lose the carbon
contact and then you are screwed. I cleaned it up and added
some extra packing into the clip which holds the joint down.
It's been fine for days (fingers crossed) now.
