4046 can be used as a bbd driver with the inbuilt Xor
gate also voltage controlled phase overlap can be achived
a thing the 4047 cant!
Controlling the 4046 from a regular NPN expo has been
shown years ago on this list, freqency range (17Mhz)
by far broader then a 4047.(expo to pin 11 or 12)
Linearity are OK for about 2,5-3 octaves wich makes it
usefull for comb filter 12 notes octave /per volt
controll.
And no need for bufferning!
