MN3101/MN3102 is a very convenient chip to use and usually inexpensive.
Easy to turn it into a voltage-controlled clock using an expo or lin
current source.
It has built-in clock buffers so is capable of driving chips as large as
MN3005 with decent rise and fall times. Also has a built-in 250 nS
"non-overlap" time for the two clock phases which most simple drive
circuits ignore.

You should be able to use the CD4047 in a similar manner to the MN chip.
The 4047 is actually capable of running as fast as 8 MHz or so (4 MHz
at the outputs) in the A/DA circuit if properly tweaked. You may want to
buffer the 4047 outputs.
