[sdiy] OT: making "IDM"

Even though I am an Autechre fan, I am sad to see that they have only one or
maybe 2 good tracks per album (unless you crave electroacoustic type
soundscapes). And obviously, the track that makes each album is one that is
melodic, by which humans respond naturally. I feel Autechre is pushing the
limit of melody, in a direction beyound good and bad, it sometimes leaves me
indifferent.

I remember listening to Autechre in mid 90' and I remember them saying (I
actually talked to them during a concert in Vancouver B.C.) that they like
to think of their music as if it cannot be given an era in which it was
created, if for example an alien was to analyzing the story of music on
planet earth (a lot of electronic music was associated with aliens in those
days).

In my point of view, you can easily tell the era of a music by analyzing the
instruments used to make this music (every instrument has a distinct sound).

I sure that Autechre has evolved since then, just like all of us...
