I'd say that the music of Autechre is not so much random, but obtuse.
Music which is complex often appears random to many people, who might
be expecting melodies played in simple rhythm.

I don't know Autechre themselves, but I have seem some examples of how
they make their music. They are expert Max/MSP programmers. They leaked
a standalone Max app a few years ago as a GESCOM piece, I was able to
"rip" the main patch and all of the sub-patches to look at them. The
patch was quite sophisticated! Also, I have seen screenshots from some
of their performances which showed complex algorithmic sequencers. If
you do a search for "autechre max/msp" you can probably see these same
things for yourself.
