Harry,
I traced down a spurious Iabc-dependent "HF oscillation" to the Iabc pin 
- initially thought it was the  expo servo oscillating - but it appeared 
to have an AM-radio envelope - shunting it to V(-) with a 33 pF ceramic 
stopped it and removed the hiss. Keeping traces to the Iabc pins as 
short as possible would help too.
