Given that performance isn't a simple scalar value, I'd call
this a cost/aesthetic ratio.  I noticed that one of the mods
to the xoxbox actually reintroduces rail sensitivity in the
resonance circuits.  And this being sdiy, why hasn't someone
designed a voltage-controled sensitivity to rail fluctuations?
A completely unexplored area!  (I'm busy working on VC'd panel
color and configuration.)
