[sdiy] Dual power supply solution? - Kits vs 2600

I (guilty) started by using EFM as an example.

My point was to illustrate the design tradeoffs.
I used EFM as an example of the choices made in
designs. Cost vs Performance.

Everone is entitled to an opinion. No one has the
right to 'second guess' the manufacturer unless they
want to open a business themselves and do a better
(or cheaper) job.

People vote with their money. I mentioned that I have
bought EFM (as an example) and modified it to be what
I wanted. For a $10 starting point I'm satisfied with
my value for the money.

We can argue that a VW Microbus 'should' have been
made with a 427 Hemi. It would change the design
completely and the price would change (and maybe no
one would BUY it)

Tom has clearly stated where he's coming from as a
designer... less is more. I have no arguement with
that.

I don't like the idea that "voltage references are not
needed because I chose not to use them". Using
voltage
references does not make one "anal retentive" Its a
design choice that is dictated by cost / performace
ratio. I like 'em so I added them. Your mileage may
vary.

I apologise to Tom for using his product as an
example.
