Finally! I had bought a horrible Rat Shack analog meter about five
years ago, and been determined lately to buy a better meter. These
appear to be great times for finding them, with lots of servicable
portable units as surplus.

I scored an Extech 380285 meter for $20.50! I am delighted, fast
shipping got it here today. Only issue is that compared to my Rat meter
this one includes functions which aren't obvious to me. Of course I can
and will mess around with this thing and learn how to use it, but the
curve is steeper for me than for some. I was hoping to find a manual
for it online somewhere, but no luck. Anybody use one of these, or
similar? It appears to have "hold" and "record" functions of some kind,
and other mystery stuff. I expect I can figure out the most-used
functions easily for ordinary measuring. Maybe I'll contact Extech for
a manual, too bad as most companies put manuals online these days.

Off to play on the bench!
