It's insane I tell you! Just insane..... It seems
everybody has moved to softsamplers. All that
old wonderful hardware is now a fraction of the
original cost. SCSI drives for pennies!
I've seen S760s go for $75 and ESI-32s for $50!
These were $600-700 just last year. If you're an
Akai guy S1000s for $100 ???
If you don't know the Roland S760 is IMO one of
the best sounding most clever pieces ever by anybody.
Poor mans Fairlight. 1r sampler Make sure it's got
video/mouse and 32MB of memory.
+ AWSOME
+ Video/Mouse Editing
+ S1000 Compatible
- 600MB HDD limit
- No Internal HDD
The e-mu ESI-32 is just plain awesome. If you pick
one up make sure there's scsi and 32MB of memory.
Grab a SCSI HDD for $15.
+ AWSOME
+ AWSOME
- No wave edit display
Each has resonant filters that will self-oscillate and
enough parameters w/midi-cc to turn any sample into
a full fledged synth voice or whatever!! Look 'em
up...
It requires a little work on your part but you can
build entire synth modules on removable scsi disks
for $5 bucks and no CPU hit. You'd think people
would hang on to these very cool pieces.OTOH I've
got a few cool things to sell off myself.:)
The way it works is... If it's really old or really new
it really cost a lot... They are giving away 80s & 90s
stuff. Don't fight over these things, keep the prices
low. I said something about the MX6 on KVR and
the price shot straight up. :(
Regards
Tom
