[sdiy] "Art of Electronics" bootlegs?

As I have been getting tired of my ignorance of electronics, I decided
that I should get a good book or several to cover the basics. I've got
Lancaster's "cookbooks", Hal Chamberlin's "Musical Applications of
MIcroprocessors", and Barry Klein's book on analog synth circuits. A
lot of stuff about electronic music, but no real foundation on general
electronics. Since the book has been by far more recommended to me than
any other - and appears to be quite good - I decided to get a copy of
Horowitz and Hill's "The Art of Electronics".

I don't always get stuff via eBay, but it does often make a decent
barometer for prices. Also, I like doing business person-to-person when
I can. I search for The Art of Electronics on eBay, and just about
every copy has been from Hong Kong or Singapore, and priced at about
the $10-$30 range. Since this is from Asia, the shipping is quite a
bit. If I were to get a copy from Hong Kong for $9.99 US, I'd need to
pay $29.00 for shipping

Isn't this weird? Do people just knock off copies for cheap over there
and sell them? Is somebody liquidating them around here and inflating
the shipping? I expect to see these tactics if I am looking at anime
DVDs or foreign movies, but not electronics textbooks.
