I have been fixing the MG-1, and now it is FX for Drum Machines! I
tamed the hot power supply, so my new board doesn't fry anything. One
of the corners which was cut from the MG-1 version of the Moog filter
was the VCF summer. I made a summer with external input, which also has
a basic preamp and envelope follower. Testing this thing has been
tremendous fun! I have been patching rhythms out of the RY30 and DR110
through the new VCF input and playing for hours. The envelope follower/
extractors circuit is the Electronotes version from Barry Klein's book,
except with a pot for env gain and a pot for gate extraction
sensitivity. The smoothing effect on the input makes it impossible to
accurately handle a fast rhythmic part, but the results were like
interesting psuedo-random variations. I guess I could do switchable
smoothing caps.
Next VCF mods are switchable ladder caps, probably some 1uF film types
I have here. Also I am going to redo the VC resonance which I tried
last year. The current res slider will be res cv amount, and another
pot will be for cv range.
And to provide some real modulation options, I am copying the MG-1 EG
and VCA a few times over. Most subcircuit I/O will be brought out to
jacks on the back, where the "Realistic" logo used to be.
