No, really...

No, it has nothing to do with the International Distress Frequency...


To add some -real- Synth-DIY content, what frequencies and power levels are
used for a theremin? You wouldn't want to interfere with aircraft
navigation beacons, or scramble some hospital's wireless patient monitoring
system, would you? Also, do theremins from different countries have to
operate on different frequencies, because of the different RF regulations
of those countries?
