That, Gorka, is a beautiful old rhythm box!
What I think creates the variety of analog drums is the ability to
change the character of the drum sounds as they are played. I have
always found most "effects" to be like an embellishment. For instance,
there are probably resistors in that box which tune the drum pitches,
and others which are basic filters. You can experiment with different
values for those and hear the difference in the sound, even replace
with pots to change them continuously. If you don't like the changes
you can always put the originals back.
This is what I think makes drums come alive, instead of disguising the
drum sound, you enable some articulation. Otherwise, I think delay can
be interesting because you can use it to make new rhythms.
