The Hero-1 if it has the Speech module would have a Votrax chip in it which
can be fun for musicish noises if you're into that sorta thing ( as I am ).
Being a big Hero-1 fan however and knowing there are people who would pay
good money for it I'd have to suggest not destroying it for parts. Ebay it
or check around for one of the many Hero-1 groups. They are fairly rare and
very collectable.
