Bill,
He 'stole' the idea from Bernard Szajner, the story goes that bernard built
it and showed it to jarre in its original form (a framed type, see below)
Jarre then 'adapted and borrowed' it.
The sound is actually an elka synthex, and from what I can see, he's also
miming to a backing tape.
