I don't know which EFM module(s) you are referring to, but the panels
for synth kits are usually just suggestions. Some people hard-wire
patches between modules in a portable case. Some people put both coarse
and fine tuning controls. A control which most people use a trimpot for
might make more sense on the panel for some others. The circuit might
be pre-designed, but how you interact with it isn't. My first kit was
Gene Stopp's ASM1, and there was no suggested panel layout at all. It
takes a little time to plan a panel.
As for the BOM... that's another matter! Tom always tries new versions
of his circuit ideas. I wonder sometimes if he accidently makes the BOM
for a different version of the circuit which he has on hand. Sometimes
there have been mistakes. With the EFM documentation, the schematic
diagram is almost always what one wants to work from.
Tom will answer your specific questions if you nicely persist, but he
is a very busy and obsessed guy, so it might take a while for him to
reply.
