So we'll just use other devices. Almost everything I've built uses
only opamps, diodes and transistors. A few cheat and use CMOS - but I
bought a life time supply (I hope) of those parts.

E-3 doesn't last forever if you keep your stuff together. You can
start affording things again when you hit E-5, so hit the books now.
