Well it all works. The genius who put glue on the key contacts and put
the wrong contacts in also managed to put two cables in switched. It
happens that, the cable for the LED's on the panel and the bender/wheel
cables are the same type and..actually are MORE convenient to hook
up...wrong. Wow. it looked so right. And I was TOTALLY bumfuzzled by
the fact that

1) the chip that latches the gates for the oscillators and the chip that
flip flops the LED's status for the modes are hooked to...the SAME DATA BUS

2) the only line which could possibly give them a clue as to when their
data is 'up'....are the 'clock' lines that go from individual pins on
the cpu. Well the Gate one is shared by another chip for trigger
control. But anyway....

3) My tek466 can no way sense that either of those lines ever flicker
under any circumstance! MAN...I wasted so much time trying to do what
SEEMED the 'obvious' (Beer spill all over the freakin CPU board! Pull
up chips, clean under them, test the chips...swap the chips etc. I
mean...wouldn't ya THINK that since you can't see the clocks move and
you tried a good cpu that...it must be something still shorting in the
slurry? grrrrr!)

Well that one goes down in the anals of AYIIIEEEE! If anyone has any
kind of clue why I can't see those clock signals, I'd appreciate
knowing. However the thing tuned up and runs awesome now it seems. A
little fine touch up and it'll look super nice too. So at least I
should be able to comp myself if I ever decide to sell it...
Which might not be too long. I love it but I have so many mono's
and I dunno. I'll have to play it live a few times and see how it goes.
It's definitely more useful than the CS-20M I think unless you
are..doing bass lines maybe. Not as useful as Octave cat for raw sound
dimensional latitude I don't think but better for the fx and arpeggiator
of course. Tonally I think the DS-1 rocks and though it's not nearly as
capable I don't think I'll lose it. It is well set up for performance.
Maybe the CS-15D should go first just cuz it's so like the 20M sound
wise but not as capable. Baby steps to the "sell item" link... -Bob
