My email to Jameco with the "discription" of the problem with my switch 
purchase got bounced around and was finally replied to by one John 
Beal.  His answer is that he measured the "size of the thread area on the 
shaft" and got 3/8" (vs the actual 19 mm), and that the (6 mm) shaft is 
within tolerance of 1/4".  Absolutely no concept of metric dimensions, 
apparently.  I asked him to try putting a 3/8" nut on the "thread area on 
the shaft".

This looks hopeless.
