[sdiy] Jameco/ OT>my MonoPoly's hilarious key movement work

Maybe...something's just on the 'fritz' there. :-). I've never had
problems with Jameco except briefly when I called in and they couldn't
figure out their old part numbers....and it seems like if there's a
problem to be had....
BTW...my MonoPoly...I finally tore into the keyboard movement and
discovered some new moments in do it yourself fixer upper technology
:-). Now I bought this thing under the ad from everexapandingdream that
i was getting a mostly working board..just no lights but the functions
worked. I haven't been able to get a sound out of it most of the time
though messing with the beer spilled board I did get a random bizarre
appearance of the oscillators..or some of them...
Anyway the keyboard...as I was investigating every detail to see why
it might not be putting out clocks to the 4042 latch for LED's and the
4174 ff that drives the gates.... I noticed that the response of the CPU
inputs to keys being pressed was...bizarre and more analog than I'd
expect :-). I pulled the keyboard and it soaked up my whole evening.
POS...the moron who worked on it used some kind of AIRPLANE GLUE or
something that ate into the board basically and was a pain to
remove...in necessary places..LIKE ALL OVER ONE OF THE CONTACTS!! Man.
THERE is a prime piece of SYnth DIY work for ya :-). Oh but
wait..there's more

1) they used the wrong contacts. I don't know where they threw the
originals. They're gone.
2) they used the glue to try to hold the oversized contacts down
3) they did away with ALL of the plastic spacers so that the board was
probably touching contacts on metal, etc.

Coool. I'm trying to ask the guy what "technician" performed this
miracle cure..hehe...and what the contacts are out of since most of them
are still good and maybe I can at least recoop some of my losses. Man.
Anyway I've asked in the other group and Im getting no replies. btw Does
ANYONE here know what might cause the two lines from the CPU not to
clock the latch and FF circuits? I've tried swapping the cpu from
polysix and it works fine in the polysix but no change on the monopoly.
I've swapped cpu sockets and cleaned rigorously under there. And the
4042 I've socketed and cleaned there and the rest of the board. What a
nightmare project that one turned out to be! The guy was right who
emailed me after I won the auction! How...did he know it was 'very
broken'?? :-) Strannnnge. Maybe he was the tech? :hehehe. -Bob
