"wrong" direction?  :-)  As I recall zero cv gives maximum output if 
that's what you mean.  I used these in the jamman Sample/hold volume 
pedal rig for Todd Green.  I havne't put them to the test in extensive 
applications.   But yeah that's correct I see in the datasheet.  You can 
make CV between 0 to 5V to get attenuation only, and if you connect to 
go negative then you can get gain.  -Bob
