My bass has 4 - my wife went to buy the 12 string bass for my birthday and

Envelope follower can be used to create triggers and gating. Multiple gates
are possible by following the envelope follower with delays and envelope
generators.

For foot switches, volume pedals, etc. (adn to jump up and down with to try
to get someone on beat)
