   It seems like it might sound similar to a soft-sync swept VCO?  I 
think I would try adding a freq-doubler to the incoming saw wave 
and then run one of the PWM channels off of that.  OR, limit the PW range 
so that the pulses never line up.

   Can't hurt!....er...

   Light it on fire.  At least it'll give you a momentary sense of 
self-gratification.
