[sdiy] Real cause of DIY death

Hehe..oh yeah a little MASH now and then can be good. I love old TV
shows but I tend to just veg out with it around too much. I love the
old late 60's stuff personally above all. There are good things and
then there are better things. I just decided I don't have room for it
in my personal space many years ago (early 80's!) but I am not 'against'
it. I'm for good programming. Just making a general statement about how
the attitude that says..what I said begins to degenerate the whole
pioneering spirit. ANd it's sort of..a natural evolution. Smart people
design the technology. Smart people KNOW what utter ruin it will go to
if they turn it over to stupid people and say 'have fun son!" . hehe.
But then as the years go by, the designers are all dead. And the
traditions of how they thought things should be done pale in comparison
to the green that looms on the horizon over there....and next thing you
know horrible cartoons, MTV, prime time soaps, and on down from there.
Musical reference to Weird Al's song where he starts out in Eminem form
saying

"Look...if you had the chance to just sit on your lazy butt and watch
all the tv you ever wanted until your brain turns to mush..would you go
for it? Or just let it slip YO. "

Great moments like

"My butt is achin while I watch nascar racin'" and "That show king of
queens jumped the shark the first minute. I can't believe Richard
Simmon's ain't in it"...hehe. "Poodle Hat" is one of Al's best Albums
in some time in my opinion. Best polka since "In 3D" with "Angry white
boy polka".

Oh well anyway not saying TV is inherently evil. Given how economics
work though...I don't see an alternative to an occasional revolution of
some kind where those in power are at least liquidated of their assets
and sent off in exile so those with functionally brains/hearts can
restructure things in a way that serves humanity instead of themselves
again...otherwise it's a constant downward spiral in overall quality of
programming it seems to me. -Bob
