Dumber would be...watching people who are not hot babes dressed in hot
pants and bra basically eating bugs according to the larger portion of
the audience I'd think :) I don't have a TV except for mind improving
video's that people occasionally recommend...like Chris Farley's "Almost
Heros" that we caught 75% of the other day before we finally figured out
"It's...just.......getting worse!!! No...Hope of...redeeming movie....at
this...POINT!" One of the last people on earth I trust recommended
that movie too. What a shame. :-)
Anyway I'm yet to be convinced that much of anything on TV these days
is more than silly starting with the news. AT SOME POINT the supposedly
'smarter' people have to get a vision and make good programming. But
it's turned WAY toward the side of watching polls to see what the ..not
quite so bright masses want to see. If you can advertise beer and show
them a program where girls with no upper body strength try to latch from
hoop to hoop below a helicopter or fall in the water below.... and you
make billions doing that one and you only make 10's of thousands off a
show that details Henry Ford's production facility development....which
are you going to run?
See that's what it all comes down to. People with authority
deciding 'Ya know...I really don't want to make a positive difference in
the world. The world is a total loss. I want to deceive them and let
them pay me indirectly millions of dollars to show them RAW SEWAGE and
then go build a fort and live in it far away from them.'
In order for a country not to naturally go downhill, there need to
be safeguards in media. Such things actually exist on the books but the
guardians thereof have chosen to look away and to even rationalize that
the internet if for some reason outside their jurisdiction as much as
possible for the last couple decades.
AND..so naturally in the midst of this kind of climate you will
see a dumbing down of people (the dumber they are hey the more product
they buy! dumb dumb dumb 'em down, I dumb 'em down yeaaah .. ooo wiii
ooo oooo. ) and a loss of interest in DIY related things, especially
if a reasonable amount of prosperity still exists. People will tend to
buy whatever is fed to them as the latest greatest thing. A pioneering
spirit is generated by a culture that inspires children to start
thinking about great things they can do with their lives. I used to
talk to kids about astronomy, electronics and stuff when I'd go to
people's houses. Anymore....it's like yesterday. I'm at these people's
house and the kids are watching this absolutely worthless movie about
cross dressers or something. (ahem..no offense to all the cross
dressers in the group....but...if someone wants me to chip in on the
budget for making a movie about how your cross dressing affects your
SDIY work..uhh count me out :-) ) I haven't changed but overall
something has changed around me. People are just a lot less into
nature/how things work and...a lot more into imagination driven
non-sense that occupies their time but leaves them with nothing
trasferrable in the end overall I'd say. -Bob
