Yes, you're right : most "ethnic folks" (I REALLY HATE
that word) are very ethno-centric, but nevertheless I
don't see any reason why we shouldn't have a look
at those programs to try to understand their way of
thinking the world they live in...
Besides, those programs aren't only limlited to news
from home : they also feature sophisticated comments
on international events, featuring different point of
views than those on CNN or ABC...
It's also often interesting to learn how those "ethnic"
folks view other cultures including your own : for
instance, a few months ago, on a french channel,
there were excerpts of a program from a TV channel
from Israel covering recent anti-semitic violences in
western Europe, and it was very "surprising" : it
looked like Jews were at war with the rest of the
population...

so what ? what might be an old rerun for them can also
be a novelty for you, if you never saw that movie before...
I once traveled in Morocco and the local TV was playing
old egyptian movies featuring Farid El-Atrach... It was
awesome... And frankly, I don't mind watching reruns
of movies by Preminger, Von Stroheim, Fritz Lang,
Godard, etc etc
