several times I've read, or I've been told by engineers and the like,
that technology improvement is just a matter of time and investiment...
IOW if you spend enough time and $$$$ on a research field, you'll
finally succeed... one of these persons even told me that transfering
human beings to distant places via a (laser) beam (like in Star Trek)
was theorically possible, and was just a question of time & money...

They started assuming that getting a car to fly was no problem at all, the problem was to get them not crash with other cars while flying, so were working on "sky highways" or something like that, where the car will be driven in something like an automatic mode through them, avoiding crashing and getting you close to your desired destination, where you would have to drive the flying car as a normal car to your destination.
