When I was a little kid there were still people around who pooh-poohed the
possibilities of technology and whatnot. The idea of reviving someone whose
heart had stopped seeming nothing short of miraculous, for instance. Then
when I was six some fool stepped off the LEM onto the moon and flubbed his
historic line. After that something changed. Suddenly, it seemed like
almost anything was possible given enough time and money. At the very least
"going to the moon" was no longer a valid example of what what wasn't
possible. By the same token, it's been somewhat anti-climactic since then
as well.

I'm still waiting for the flying cars we were promised. I keep hearing some
guff about "liability" and "traffic control".
