You totally hit the nail on the head.

I was talking to someone about a concept I had for a new computer. I let
him know that it would cost $4000.00. He laughed and said "nobody would
pay that". I said "Why not, they paid that for an IBM PC with dual 360k
Floppy drives once".

To your point, back then it was AWESOME! Today a PC or anything like it
would be about as exciting as a push mower was in 1950. 


At this point I think it would take a flying bubble car to get people
excited.
