My trip through NJ was 2 or 3 years ago. Such states seem to be in the
minority, from what I can tell. I don't travel much, but that is the only
state I've personally visited which had that law. I had heard about
Oregon's law on a television show a saw a few years ago. I don't know if
any other states in the country have such a regulation.
As for the inspector, how would you know if he were asking for the town
"pimp", or the town "pump" (presumably a service station)? From what I
remember, his accent was a little fuzzy. Remember his difficulty in asking
the hotel clerk for a "room" ?
