i patched the control and synth boards back together last night... LOTS of
jumps on broken traces... powered it up, and everything lights up perfectly!
when i turn myspeakers all the way up, and set the envelope to LFO, i can
hear it and the shape and speed when i press down a key, so i know the
keyboard, LFO, and LFO -> VCA works. so far no sound from anything before
the VCA other than the LFO. i checked everything this morning and only
found two broken traces that i missed.
the most damage [besides the boards!] was a smashed slider [sub osc mix],
also the tune pot is busted and another switch has a broken shaft. a few
broken keys too. i'm going to solder a pot in place of the broken slider pot
for testing purposes.
my current to do list:
- add 'external in' mod to see if i can get any sound through the
filter/adsr
- do a better test on the VCO
- test the CV out voltages
i don't have my scope setup right now, so i was doing ye olde 'cable to pin'
test to see if i got any output from the CEM... didn't sound very VCO-y...
can someone tell me what the output directly from the CEM3340 should sound
like? just like any raw waveform i would assume. i'd also like to know what
kind of symptoms the synth would have if it it was a case where just the
CEM3340 was dead.
any other advice for troubleshooting problems? thanks for any help you
guyzez :)
