I remember reading somewhere that the Apollo guidance computer (which I 
think came up on this list recently) was all done with wire-wrap, and then 
epoxied.

I remember spending many an hour with a wirewrap tool in the senior 
digital design lab at Wash U. Mine always looked like a bird's nest - but 
there were some folks in the class who could get it really tight.
