I have a schematic here if you need to walk through anything.  I've 
never had to replace the battery even on mine.  1988 I got it?  It's 
probably about that time :-)   Was there ever any dropping of this unit 
that you know of?   Otherwise, yeah like the others said.  If you know 
the battery is in right then the hunch about CE line would be a first
