I'm not familiar with this unit, but this sort of fault can occur if the 
read/write line to the memory chips has gone bad. This can be due to a 
'power up' line having failed. In other words the synth still thinks its 
in sleep mode and not powered up.

If you have a schematic look for the power supply and see if it has a 
power on reset line, or perhaps on the main board see if there is a power 
monitoring circuit.
