if you own the dvd's that you're backing up, it's completely [ok, mostly]
legal. this is what happens with videogames and dvds all the time - it's
legal to make a backup copy or transfer it to the computer, but once you
distribute that to anyone who isn't using it as a backup copy of their
legally owned dvd or whatever, it's illegal.

i say just check ebay or a flea market or thrift store... you could probably
buy like 80% of disney's catalog for under 20 bucks :)
