You know those stories where one of your DIY buddies posts that some awful
catastrophe has occurred and his synth "fill in the blank" was nearly
destroyed. by "fill in the blank" natural or man-made disaster? You feel
his pain because of your own love and appreciation for synth hardware. You
want to reach out and help or comfort the poor guy because it is the common
love for synths and building our own that bonds this group of geeks
together. So, everyone jumps in to help in this community of guys with like
interest. People gladly give more than the receive.
Suddenly, people we don't even know are treating us like best buddies. And,
indeed some become long-term friendships. People host websites that provide
free and helpful information with no expectation of return. Some guys even
venture into the business of supplying DIY parts and pieces to others
knowing their time invested will offer only the relatively smallest return.
No one is concerned with the others race, religion, or politics. The sum of
the parts is indeed greater than the whole.
This week, a tragedy occurred which is not synth related. It is a tragedy
anytime injury occurs due to hostile acts regardless of which side of the
issue one might be on. Each of us will react to that tragedy in our own
personal way. Some of the baggage that comes with the intelligence that
makes most of us geeks is also being very highly opinionated. So, we tend
to say what we think. However, it should not be said here, in this forum.
So, to the vast majority of you who have kept silent on the matter, "Thank
you." To those who have urged silence or apologized for their mistakes and
put it behind you, "Thanks." To those who wish to continue to get the last
word concerning their "right-ness", PLEASE go away or at least shut up
already.
Oh, back to my synth tragedy story... Synth-DIY is my synth tragedy. I know
I can count on every one of you to help me get it properly working again. I
have learned so much from this list. I try to give back where I am able.
This note represents an attempt to do so.
I welcome any comments or opinions you have about what I have said. I'll
gladly share my views of the tragedy in the UK or other parts of the world.
BUT, PLEASE send them to me privately.
Now back to something synth related....
Summer NAMM is in Indy this month. I'd love to go. It is 1 hour from home.
Anyone know how I can a ticket?
