This is an old myth which definitely predates reSID.

Personally, I don't care if something is analog or digital, as long as I
like the sound. The sad part about soft synths (and also expander
modules) is the horrible user interface. If I play a machine, I don't
want to hook up both, me and it, to the computer just to be able to
edit it.

I would like to see e.g. an PPG 2.V coming in the very same casing
offering the very same user interface as the original PPG 2.3; or an
FM-7 in the shell of a Yamaha SY-77/99.

If I have then played, and recorded everything, *then* the software
plugins may be used for the all-digital mixdown (which we all know must
be recorded on 2" tape prior to CD mastering :)
