I was going to wait for more responses before saying anything dumb. Oh well.

Your statement implies that you are only thinking in terms of software vs
true analog hardware.
Alright. Compared to the real life actual SID chip, i always hear that the
sofware emulations are horrible. But there really isn't that much of a
significant difference. It gets the idea across, regardless. There are a few
interesting sound comparisons here: http://www.kubarth.de/sid/index.html
i'll shut up about the sid now

What i think the grandparent was trying ask is, what is the differences in
sound between "true" analog hardware vs virtual analog hardware. Virtual
means it's essentially a an emulation in hardware, a port. The Alesis Ion,
and the Clavia Nord Lead X (goes without saying).

I have a Nord Lead 2. Well. In comparison to true analog, it lacks alot of
features such as reverb and effects that come standard with everything else
today. But I just now realized Clavia was simply trying to stay true to it's
origins.

You mentioned knobs; this has a knob for everyting. One thing is missing
though. Patch cords.
It's totally hardwired. The Nord modular emulates patches in software, and
it's a tiny little 2-octave keyboard.

Now the actual sound is hard to compare. And I really don't have anything to
compare it to. But it will do whatever I want it to, and it's fun to sit and
make "patches" wheres in softare it's a total ****ing pain.
It certainly doesn't sound like it's digital. it has it's share of "analog"
instabilities, like random pops and strange unpredictable ocillations.I know
it's not broken. The Clavia tech told me so :P
