Neat Odyssey trick:
-go to the S/H Mixer section, set the switch under the first slider to VCO1
Saw or VCO1 Square (your choice) and then crank up the slider.
-now go to the first FM Input slider on VCO2, set the switch to "S/H Mixer"
and crank up the slider. You now gots some gnarly FM from VCO 1 to VCO2! You
can also do FM from VCO1 to the VCF using bascially the same trick. The
other Sample/Hold settings don't matter because you're not really using the
sample/hold output, you're just using the S/H input mixer as a 'modulation
mixer.' Note that this trick does NOT work on the Avatar, as the FM Input
switches to VCO2 and the VCF have slightly different routing options.
I like applying some FM to VCO2, and then using the ADSR to add a bit (just
a teeny bit) of a pitch 'blip' at the beginning of the note (again, only on
VCO2). Makes neat 'trumpet' sounds. I dialed up a sound like this, ran it
through a digital delay/reverb, and got a sound EXACTLY like those insane
mini 'horns in a can' that people always blast at football games.
Well, I thought it was neat. And it made my kids laugh. ;)
