Hi Richard,

I built a second Osc for my Yamaha CS-10 using one back in 1994.  I used the Sine output and also the square out plus three square sub-octaves using a CMOS counter running at 15V.  The four octaves of square are mixable too.  There are five footage settings and a fine tune.  

It works well, the chip gets hot though and it isn't fantastically stable but works well enough.

I showed it at Synth DIY UK 2004. It's the unlabelled(!) bolt on box on the side :)

The Yamaha synths of this era have Hz/V outputs which means you can use a linear VCO - no need for a lin to expo converter :D
