Ah, yes.  I failed to notice that, like most 9 volt-powered stomp boxes, the 
circuit is powered by a "fake" bipolar supply (R11 and R12), which would keep 
"ground" at a real potential of +4.5 volts.   The 1 Meg resistor bleeds that 
unwanted DC at the output cap to real ground.  Then again, they could have 
saved time and just used a big screwdriver.
