[sdiy] Where to get parts?

The tendency for instance with op amps has been to make units with
higher and higher slew rates, lower noise and offsets, or lower power
with the best of those attainable. Some of the older op amp designs are
preferred in certain applications because of the....complexity that
accompanies their 'deficiencies' I guess is a good way to put it. Some
like myself still have stock of some old ones. I have to add a few more
sites people have put up recently ...Small Bear for instance. Nice
selection of some hard to find stuff.
More and more people who have collected bags of obsolete parts are
getting them up which is good to see. But companies like Analog Devices
still make a lot of useful stuff for diy designs. Their site has a lot
of spec sheets.
Visual Sound has even released MN3207 bbd's as I recall at real
reasonable prices, whereas previously there was no known manufacturer
for those. Filters have gone mostly into the digital realm of course
and so..I dunno. What do A6's use btw? You can find various sites that
sell NOS chips like SSM2044's at a fairly reasonable price. Or watch
ebay. But as far as mass marketed filter chips these days...I'm not
aware of any production. Here's an interesting link. I haven't had time
to study what exactly they are doing here but sounds a little like
something I dreamed about doing..

19 bucks a piece whatever they are. Anyone seen that one?

The best way to design is probably to conceive generally what you
want to do with some basic understanding of the parts that are
available. Then if there is some aspect that you really would like
something that is more tailored to suit a design idea, ask away and if
it's out there someone can probably point you the right direction or
you'll just find it in a google search. . -Bob
