First you'd have to mask the acrylic with a frisket, either cut by hand or
with a vinyl cutter/plotter. Then you'd carefully frost it with a small
sandblaster with a fairly mild abrasive. It probably wouldn't take much to
carve the Grand Canyon out of it.

Another idea would be to similarly mask it but spray it with something that
would leave a frosted appearance (like a clear matte finish) or with light
coats of lacquer thinner. The latter will actually etch the surface
slightly before evaporating.
