Elektor Crescendo (was: [sdiy] Discharging electrolytics)

Okay kids, you can stop arguing now. I've found out
that the amp is a Elektor Crescendo, the caps are
discharged and they were not 1000uF but 10 000uF....

Anyhow i'm interested in repairing this little thing,
it seems like the person who built it bypassed both
"wall-ground" and transformer fuses. This apart from
just unscrewing the capacitors so that they were lying
freely inside, ready to discharge into the chassis on
every little shake. I've learned something about
carrying stuff home from the dumpster today...

So two questions:

I've found the schematics, but nothing more. If anyone
has any upgrades, schematics for the extras
(VU-meters, DC output protection etc), misc
information or just plain ideas for making this a
better unit, i'd be really interested (bleeding
resistors eh?)

Also, since i'm really short on cash currently i'm
wondering how much this puppy would be worth second
hand, any ideas??

btw. sorry for being slightly OT but i can't resist
using the wast knowledge gathered on this list.

Thanks

Karl
