[sdiy] 2sc1583/NTE42 vs CA3046

I'm sure you've all gone over the merits of these devices in agonizing 
detail while I was away from the list but my searching of the archives has 
ended in frustration so now I ask...

how well does the 1583/NTE42 match up with the 3046 and which is the 
prefered choice for use in a VCO expo converter?
